A mommy & me kitchen date

Kate is getting to the age where she is understanding directions and is always eager to help me with things around the house. Some of her favorite things are; bringing the clean laundry in from the laundry room, helping me empty the trashcans, put things back in the fridge, close cupboard doors, start the dish washer. And the list goes on... She loves to help her momma.

I am loving it and today we had our first baking session together. I have been waiting for this day for a long time! We started out with something non-edible and made play dough. Well I made it and she helped mix.
It was so fun and so easy...

 No cook Play-dough Recipe

1 cup of flour
1 cup of boiling water
2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
a half cup of salt
1 tablespoon of oil

* I added a splash of food coloring to make it pretty

Mix all together and let it cool before you play.

All the ingredients

Splash of red food coloring

I sealed it up & set it in the fridge to cool down while Kate napped

trying to figure this stuff out...

Sweet little foot..

So, the girl wasn't a huge fan of it. She didn't like getting her hands dirty.
Oh my.
The smell instantly took me back to when I was a child, wasn't I just 7 and making things out of play dough on my table set in the backyard? Ahh, we played for about an hour on the kitchen floor until she decided the cookie cutters were way better than her homemade play-dough. I totally got stood up.
There is nothing greater than watching Kate learn and grow & I feel so blessed to spend my days with her.
Oh how I live for little moments like this..

Homemade Pop Tarts

To be honest, I’m not a fan of the boxed pop tarts but homemade ones make me weak in the knees. Our local coffee shops here in Tennessee sell them and they’re my guilty pleasure.  I decided to take a quiet Tuesday morning and make some with my sweet boy.
Here’s what I did..

A healthier me.

Remember my Trust your gut  post?I feel like a whole new girl since I wrote that a month ago.  So many things have been confirmed and I feel like my happy healthy self again.
All because of two things; 1. The gallbladder cleanse that I posted about.  Literally saved my gallbladder and my sanity.  No more stomach pain! And I can drink wine and margaritas without pain again! 🙌🏼
2. I found out that I have a sensitivity to gluten. It's still a mystery to me as to how I developed this but all I know is that when I do have gluten my joints hurt, I get awful headaches and an upset stomach along with bloating.
Back to my first post about this... I took a "before picture" thinking I was going to 5-10 pounds and then post my "after" picture. 😂😂😂
Truth is, there are still plenty of calories in gluten free food. The other truth is I'm 80-20 gluten free. I still enjoy a few non-gluten free treats here and there (and then pay for it later).
I love food. I reward myself wit…

The best iced coffee, ever.

When Chris and I went to Mexico this past winter we quickly become addicted to their  blended espressos. I found myself craving them when we got home so I played around with a couple of instant espressos and ended up making the best iced coffee, ever.

What you’ll need.  Medaglia D’oro instant espresso Water IceCoffee creamer of your choiceHeavy cream + caramel Trust me on the instant espresso. I tried them all. This is the best. I get it at Kroger. I’ve also heard Walmart carries it as well as trusty amazon.
Step one.  Get your ingredients out.

I fill my glass up halfway with water and pour a capful of instant espresso in.

Mix it real good.

Time to cool it down.

Now comes the sweet part.

This next step is money.  Lordy.

If you’re feeling really naughty you can add caramel sauce.  Do it.

If you’ve been wanting the recipe for the BEST homemade caramel ever then you’re in luck.  This is the recipe from my mother in law.  It is life changing.
