save the animals!

Let me start this off by saying that...

#1. I am an animal wacko
#2. I will bring my car to a stop if I see a loose dog roaming the streets to find its home
#3. I don't put up with people who abuse or mistreat animals

I am an animal nut that is for sure but I am proud of it. I'm am no where near a vegetarian but I do have a huge place in my heart for furry things. Today I was watching Oprah and what I saw disgusted me and brought me to tears. (I'm not a big fan of Oprah, but I do love some of the things she does.) It was on puppy mills and the horrible abuse that goes on there to the momma dogs. They then showed the pound and all of the animals there and explained that the dogs/cats have 5 days to find an owner before they are put down. It made me nuts watching it, there were soo many precious puppy dogs in there and I watched them be put to sleep!! The sweetest dogs who walked in the room wagging their tail and seemed like awesome family dogs were killed.

Oprah featured this awesome foundation that's in LA called the "Lange Foundation". It is a non-killing shelter for animals who are either found on the street or are rescued from the pound. Every time someone "sponsors" a pet, the foundation goes down to the pound to rescue an animal that is about to be put down in the sponsors name. It's amazing. I so wish I could be involved somehow. My dream as a little girl always was to open up an animal rescue one day. I went online and sponsored an animal, they are going to be sending a picture to me of the sweet one that I saved. I can't wait!!!

If it is on your heart to save a dog or cat from the pound and you are like me and can't have one more animal in your house then PLEASE go to...... www.langefoundation.com
They are awesome people with great hearts and their foundation runs off of donations alone.

Thanks :)

They’re gluten free and to die for.  You can make this recipe gluten free by replacing the All Purpose Flour with Gluten Free Flour. Or if you want to skip the homemade dough all together you can use pie crust in the refrigerated section at the grocery store!
Here’s what I did..

The best iced coffee, ever.

When Chris and I went to Mexico this past winter we quickly become addicted to their  blended espressos. I found myself craving them when we got home so I played around with a couple of instant espressos and ended up making the best iced coffee, ever.

What you’ll need.  Medaglia D’oro instant espresso Water IceCoffee creamer of your choiceHeavy cream + caramel Trust me on the instant espresso. I tried them all. This is the best. I get it at Kroger. I’ve also heard Walmart carries it as well as trusty amazon.
Step one.  Get your ingredients out.

I fill my glass up halfway with water and pour a capful of instant espresso in.

Mix it real good.

Time to cool it down.

Now comes the sweet part.

This next step is money.  Lordy.

If you’re feeling really naughty you can add caramel sauce.  Do it.

If you’ve been wanting the recipe for the BEST homemade caramel ever then you’re in luck.  This is the recipe from my mother in law.  It is life changing.

Family Room DIY makeover

Remember that one time my husband bought a tv wall mount and then I decided we needed a new tv stand? And then it made me realize our dark furniture would look way better if I lightened it up? And then it was time to get rid of the old dark throw pillows and dark rug? And then all of a sudden that fireplace looked so out of place. So we gutted it. All because we put the tv on the wall!
Here’s a little walk down our DIY family room makeover.
Before

I started with this old corner cabinet that i got for free years ago and painted chocolate brown.  I dusted her off and went to town with chalk paint.

Then I got rid of the old dark rug and started changing out our throw pillows.

Then it was onto the fireplace.  Before

Chris took out part of the wood floor to extend the floor of the tiny fireplace.
We also cleaned out the fireplace and sprayed it with cream paint that can withstand 1,200 degree temperatures.  And then we sucked out the old volcano rock and put in this fire glass from amazon.
