See y'all in Music City USA

We're packing up and heading out to spend the 4th of July in Nashville, Tennessee with our family! We are stoked! Can't wait to get there and get my fix of Southern cookin, drive on dirt roads that lead you to the most beautiful sights, celebrate Independence Day with legal fire works, shop my favorite stores in downtown Franklin, hear the sweetest accents around and spend a week in the Bible bell.  Such a sweet place...see you there! I will do my best to blog while we're there but will be updating most of the time on twitter. Follows us! @candnandrews

A hard goodbye

This afternoon Chris and I packed Kate up with my parents and we headed out to visit my Grandma Parker. She has been going down hill since the day my pops died and the last time I saw her was in December. When we got to her house today my family sent me in to wake her up. I thought I would be fine, little did I know. I walked in her room and found her laying in bed with her comforter over half her face. I could not believe my eyes when I pulled it back. My grandma who used to have some good meat on her is now down to skin and bones, literally. Her brown curly hair was now long and white. Her face was pail and there was no life there anymore. I held her hand and said "Grandma, it's nikki. Wake up. I brought Kate to see you. Please wake up." Over and over and nothing. She would roll her eyes back and that was the only signal I got. My dad walked in and got her to wake up. She smiled at me and said a few words. I asked her if she wanted me to help get her out of bed to come

9 lives

Potentially 9 lives were saved this week because my sweet husband and my awesome parents gave up an hour of their time to donate blood for the babies at CHOC! How stinkin fabulous is that?! Have you called and made your appointment yet? Come on friends! We can ALL do this! Let's join together and save precious little lives in need! 50 more days until I go back! Who's coming with me??

Let's make a deal

I love a good deal. Who doesn't?  Especially for a family like us on one income, I am all over coupons, specials, promo name it. I have a few fun sites I wanted to share with y'all. Some of them are a little out of the ordinary but fun to check out nonetheless. I am that girl who sits down on a Sunday afternoon and clips my coupons. I have my handy dandy coupon keeper in my purse and I never buy anything online without googling to see if there are any promo codes or specials offered. I love going to the store and spending $50 with a little note at the bottom of my receipt that says "you saved $24 dollars today". Here are a couple sites to check out.. Coupons and discounts - you type in your zip code and it will bring up deals in your area. - click on the coupons you need, download their free coupon printer software and print! - same deal as redplum, i love this site! - sen

Fathers Day weekend

We kicked Father's Day weekend off with a mouth watering dinner to celebrate the amazing dad that Chris is to our Kate. AND, Kate napped the entire time we ate...almost felt like we were on a date :) Honey Dijon grilled chicken, candied yams, garlic cheese bread and organic apples Kate enjoying her homemade yams for dinner Saturday was spent at Chris' parents house. We worked in their front yard all day. 8am-5pm! Everyone worked so hard and at the end of the day their front yard looked totally different! No more dirt, there were beautiful flowers, lots of them! We had a lot of fun serving them and beautifying their yard. I wish I had taken pictures, my hands were a little dirty! Sunday morning we woke up extremely sore from our labor but Kate and I got up around 8 to make dada breakfast in bed. She is the best little helper. Cheering me on with smiles and coos. I can't wait until she can pull up a chair and help me cook. snuggle buddies. We lounged around the house all m

Give life

My sweet friend Barbara Johnson is an awesome nurse at St. Josephs Hospital (and also does Precious Prints, the adorable hand prints for babies)...she has such a beautiful heart and a tender one for babies. Barb totally encouraged me through facebook to help save babies at CHOC and donate blood. I have only given blood once in my life. It was for our pastor who was dying with cancer and my whole family went together and donated our blood to help him. It was painful but I didn't mind one bit because I knew it would help him. I just found out that you can give blood every 56 days! Totally not something I would normally get excited about but it is saving babies lives! I went down to the Pavillion across from St. Joes and gave blood today. It was not a big deal at all. Sweet Barb sat with me the whole time while I ate my warm chocolate chip cookies that they gave me and sipped on my cold juice. It really was an awesome experience. So what if it hurt for a couple minutes, we are saving

8 months

Our girl is 8 months young... Kate is a professional at crawling now. She crawls at lightening speed when we chase after her. The games begin. She is our little mighty mouse... Her new favorite thing to do it stand herself up on anything she can get her hands on. She thinks standing and walking along the edge of the couch is the coolest thing ever. Pretty sure we'll have a walker on our hands in no time. Her first little words were said this past week. YaYa and Dada SO stinkin cute! Car rides are her favorite. She sings and says "yayadadadadadadayaaaayaaada" every time we drive. Kate sleeps 12 hours a night. She takes 3-4 naps throughout the day. She is quite the smiler, charmer, partier... we are pretty sure she is the best baby ever. Oh, Kate how we love you. Happy 8 months baby girl! **On another Kate note** The momma and I planned out the majority of Kate's 1st birthday party last week in the desert. It's going to be pretty awesome. I am already working o

I don't want to grow up!

I finally put my big girl panties on and busted out Kate's shopping cart cover. She runs errands with me nearly every day and since day 1 she has been in her infant seat. She has loved it but the past few shopping trips she has been getting annoyed in her seat that was sitting in the cart. So, this morning when we took a family trip to Babies R Us I decided to pull this sweet little cozy seat out and if you can't tell by her face, she LOVED it. Seriously, it was the cutest thing. She was all smiles the hour that we shopped. She smiled at everyone who looked at her and even those who ignored her.  I'm totally sad and in denial at the fact that Kate is growing up right before our eyes at a rapid rate. I still feel like she is a newborn. Didn't we just bring her home last week? She is amazing. Chris and I worked in Kate's closet when we got home while she played next to us. I packed up all her 6 month clothing, packed up some blankets that we are done with and a coupl

To post or not to post...

I mentioned that I would do a post about friends. I went back and forth on doing a blog about this but have been urged by several to do it. I'm going to try to make this short.. I have been hurt by several girls who I used to call friends and some who I hardly even know. I am the kind of girl who puts myself out there. I love people, I love to have a good time & love to be friends with everyone (the sweet, the geeks & everyone in between) and I don't really care what other people think of me. I have had an awesome mixture of friends my whole life. I've been told that there are some people (who I hardly know) who think I'm stuck up, spoiled & just don't like me. That is fine. People can think what they want of me but I can promise you that I am far from all of that. I guess what hurts the most are the girls who I used to call friends who are putting me down in front of others and are the farthest thing from being a friend. I've had several talks wit

This made my heart smile

A couple months ago I put together a little weekend get away for my best girlfriends and I from high school, this past weekend it all came together! There are about 11 of us in all but only 7 were able to make this trip. I have been friends with these girls since I was 14 years old. Amazing. We had an awesome weekend in Palm Desert, went back to the Marriott Villas where we went for our high school graduation trip, then the summer after and for my bachelorette weekend. We have made some awesome memories there and went back to make some more. It was so good to reconnect with my girls. Crazy to see how we are all in such different places in life. That is what makes friendships so beautiful. How boring would it be if we were all doing the same thing. I am definitely the mom of the group, always have been and always will be. That's ok with me. I will take care of and look out for these girls any day of the week. I am so thankful for the real friends that God has blessed me with (

Lifestyle Change

Our life totally changed eating wise about 3 months ago. I hit a point where I was grossed out by my weight and the things I was eating and Chris had the biggest loser deal going on at the firm. We decided it would be a good time to change things around. I will start off by what our meals used to consist of: This is not all in one day of course. Just different things we would eat... Breakfast: cereal, toast, waffles, pop tarts, bacon, fruity oatmeal.. Snacks: chips, fruit snacks, ice cream, cookies, crackers, pudding... Lunch: sandwich, hot dogs, left overs, going out to eat... Dinner: red meat, macaroni & cheese, lots & lots of pasta, fast food here & there, pizza, enchiladas, salads, bread every night, mashed potatoes... So, maybe our old menu sounds like yours. Or maybe not. We obviously love food and as you can see we liked convenience, who doesn't? The last thing I felt like doing when I was working was cooking and then when I got pregnant it was a

Memorial Weekend

A long weekend! Yes! A long weekend spent by the pool with good food, even better! This is where we spend most of summer days. Right here. My chair is the one with the pink bathing suit. And those pups...the pool would not be complete without them. A girl and her dada We splashed in the pool with my grandpa on Memorial day. I adore this man. He is a saint. He is a veteran of World War 2. His story is awesome. He is my hero. The way he loves Kate is so beautiful. We lounged by the pool with grandma. Another precious soul. You can't tell by this picture that Parkinson's & Alzheimer's is taking over her body. Please be praying for her. And then there is this little bundle. She is amazing. Check out her Dora the Explorer sunglasses. Hilarious. Our little fishy. She adores the water like her dada. Speaking of dada... he is the best jungle gym ever. weeeeee! The girls. So much swimming and sunshine, we all laid on the grass and took a little rest. Hell
