Is this thing still on?

Is anyone here?

My microphone is a little dusty.
It's been a while since I've found myself here.

I do miss sitting down to write here.

I've been using instagram as my "blog" for the past couple of years.
Social media will do that to you.

It's so much easier to tap on the camera on my phone, upload a picture and share my thoughts or post a memory that I'll find myself scrolling back to look at a few months from now.

Life has been busy. It's been messy and loud.
But it's been so wonderful.

Learning to carve out time to stop and slow down.
Mornings around here these days are slow.
That will change next week when the school bus shows up at 7:33.
::where's the "omg face" emoji?

But that's what our summer has been filled with.
Slow mornings, wild afternoons and a Sunday that is our sabbath.
It's ours, its family time and we slow down and savor our day together before another week begins.

Intentional living.
We are practicing it in our home so we can also live it outside these four walls.

Intentional in all we say and do.
From the words we speak and our actions behind them.
To the way we love and treat one another.

It doesn't have to be so complicated.

I am so far from having it all together.
Social media may portray our life to be all in order.
It's not. It's a single square from a moment of our day.
Sometimes I post the disasters and the straight up crazy but most times its of my joy.
Because that's what I want to remember when I scroll back years from now.

Sure, there are hard days. Some days that go undocumented.
Some days where I spill my tired or stressed out heart out on my square.
But most days it's a moment in time that I want to soak up and savor.

Beauty is this busy mess that it may seem that I am in now.

There is grace and there is joy and behind it all is a grateful heart that is bursting because I am so glad that this mess is mine!

Homemade Pop Tarts

To be honest, I’m not a fan of the boxed pop tarts but homemade ones make me weak in the knees. Our local coffee shops here in Tennessee sell them and they’re my guilty pleasure.  I decided to take a quiet Tuesday morning and make some with my sweet boy.
Here’s what I did..

The best iced coffee, ever.

When Chris and I went to Mexico this past winter we quickly become addicted to their  blended espressos. I found myself craving them when we got home so I played around with a couple of instant espressos and ended up making the best iced coffee, ever.

What you’ll need.  Medaglia D’oro instant espresso Water IceCoffee creamer of your choiceHeavy cream + caramel Trust me on the instant espresso. I tried them all. This is the best. I get it at Kroger. I’ve also heard Walmart carries it as well as trusty amazon.
Step one.  Get your ingredients out.

I fill my glass up halfway with water and pour a capful of instant espresso in.

Mix it real good.

Time to cool it down.

Now comes the sweet part.

This next step is money.  Lordy.

If you’re feeling really naughty you can add caramel sauce.  Do it.

If you’ve been wanting the recipe for the BEST homemade caramel ever then you’re in luck.  This is the recipe from my mother in law.  It is life changing.

Family Room DIY makeover

Remember that one time my husband bought a tv wall mount and then I decided we needed a new tv stand? And then it made me realize our dark furniture would look way better if I lightened it up? And then it was time to get rid of the old dark throw pillows and dark rug? And then all of a sudden that fireplace looked so out of place. So we gutted it. All because we put the tv on the wall!
Here’s a little walk down our DIY family room makeover.
Before

I started with this old corner cabinet that i got for free years ago and painted chocolate brown.  I dusted her off and went to town with chalk paint.

Then I got rid of the old dark rug and started changing out our throw pillows.

Then it was onto the fireplace.  Before

Chris took out part of the wood floor to extend the floor of the tiny fireplace.
We also cleaned out the fireplace and sprayed it with cream paint that can withstand 1,200 degree temperatures.  And then we sucked out the old volcano rock and put in this fire glass from amazon.
